De 1891 \u00e0 fin 1894, il en r\u00e9digea les trois premiers mouvements, puis il se battit pendant pr\u00e8s de deux ans avec son Finale qu&rsquo;il laissa inachev\u00e9. Le musicien ne l\u2019entendra jamais jou\u00e9e mais elle a toujours exerc\u00e9 une puissante fascination sur des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations de chefs. D\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 Dieu, elle combine la vision d\u2019un au-del\u00e0 inqui\u00e9tant et d\u2019une certaine forme de s\u00e9r\u00e9nit\u00e9. Son exploration de Bruckner a commenc\u00e9 avec Munich et se poursuit aujourd\u2019hui avec Dresde. Il faut dire que le tradition Bruckner est toujours bien vivante aujourd&rsquo;hui \u00e0 la Staatskapelle de Dresde avec les l\u00e9gendaires cycles grav\u00e9s par Eugen Jochum, Giuseppe Sinopoli et Bernard Haitink.
